Taken during the Siege of Tsingtao (now Qingdao) in autumn 1914, these photographs show Japanese troops landing at the nearby port of Longkou, as well as the canons used to besiege the German fortifications at Qingdao in China’s Shandong province. Germany had a naval base at Qingdao, which had been under German occupation since 1898, and was therefore of strategic interest to the Allies of World War One.
